The mood of the small town, steeped in Spanish colonial splendor, is totally transformed. Already the night before, people had come from dozens of villages in the area - all descendants of the Maya.
Since early morning, they have been standing all over the old town, behind self-constructed stalls, offering the goods they brought from their villages.
Wandering between their friendly gazes, I stop to sample some of the still-warm bread and taste the coffee - the best I've ever enjoyed.
Then I catch sight of an adobe house, just a single ray of light finding its way in through the open door, settling with warm colors on a woman and her pottery. I ask her if I may take a photo. She agrees with a friendly smile - a picture I will never forget."

GUATEMALA - In Guatemala, one of the most magnificent colonial cities in Latin America - Antigua - awaits you right at the beginning of your trip.

Secluded in the north of the country, in the middle of the jungle region of Petén, you will find Tikal, one of the most important Mayan ruins. When you climb one of the pyramids, you will feel why this is a sacred place of the Maya.
