Active volcanoes and lazy sloths

"Costa Rica es pura vida!"

  • WITH THE TURTLES IN TORTUGUERO

  • THE VOLCANO ARENAL AND MONTEVERDE

  • THE NATIONAL PARK CORCOVADO

  • THE BEACHES OF COSTA RICA

One could not find a more fitting expression for the "Rich Coast", as Christopher Columbus once christened the country because of the gold treasures that were presumed here but never found.

Whether "fabulous" or "rich," both are true of Costa Rica in many ways. More than 10% of the entire country is national parks and nature reserves with lush rainforests, mysterious cloud forests and bizarre dry forests dotted with cacti.

The breathtaking flora is accompanied by a fauna whose richness of species will amaze you. The visual experience of nature is accompanied by the songs of tropical birds, the calls of howler monkeys and other unknown sounds, so that your hike through the nature reserves becomes a true experience.

A swim at one of the beautiful sandy beaches on the Pacific coast is the icing on the cake of the trip.

WITH THE TURTLES IN TORTUGUERO
-
San José - the lively capital of Costa Rica, a national park, huge banana plantations and a canal lined with lush tropical vegetation are on the way to Tortuguero, the first destination of your round journey.

Tortuguero got its name from the sea turtles that come to the beach here every year between July and September to lay their eggs. On a guided night tour with a national park ranger, you may even have the opportunity to watch a turtle lay its eggs.

But not only turtles have their home in this fascinating lagoon and tropical landscape, but also caimans, the endangered pointed crocodile, howler monkeys, sloths and many different bird species.

Starting the journey to the national park is a unique experience. Tortuguero can only be reached by water or air.

A boat trip through the countless channels of the park is highly recommended. This offers unique opportunities to observe all the inhabitants of the secondary forest in their natural habitat and at close range.

THE VOLCANO ARENAL AND MONTEVERDE
-
Costa Rica is one of the countries with the most exciting flora and fauna in Latin America.

It is also the country with one of the most spectacular volcanoes, Arenal Volcano.

With its current almost daily eruptions, it gives you the feeling of being there when the earth was formed.

The most exciting experience, however, is the nightly sight of the volcano, when you can see the glowing lava flowing down the slopes from the volcano's mouth.

From one of our lodges located at the base of the volcano, you can enjoy this impressive natural phenomenon from a safe distance.

Not far from Arenal Volcano is Monteverde, another unique Costa Rican attraction. The primary rainforest here is almost completely shrouded in clouds, which has allowed more than 2,500 species of plants to flourish. A "walk through the sky" will remain unforgettable in your memory.

On six suspension bridges, the Selvatura Walkways lead you through the treetops of the rainforest. A good opportunity to get to know the local flora and fauna.

THE CORCOVADO NATIONAL PARK
-
As an extension of the trip, another true jewel awaits you: Corcovado National Park on the Osa Peninsula in the southwest of the country, where the rainforest grows right up to the beaches of the Pacific coast.

An overwhelming variety of plants and animals, such as tree spines, armadillos, squirrel monkeys and more than 370 species of tropical birds make their home here.

Particularly striking, however, are the bright red macaw pairs, which during their flight look like a splash of color above the green jungle canopy.

After so much nature, a few days on the beautiful white sandy beaches of Manuel Antonio on the Pacific coast are the perfect end to your trip to the tropical paradise.

THE BEACHES OF COSTA RICA
-
Manuel Antonio National Park: The beautiful twin bays of Manuel Antonio are directly adjacent to the national park of the same name.

Peninsula Papagayo (Tamarindo / Playa Langosta): The long bay of Tamarindo is ideal for swimming and long walks by the sea.

Playa Islita: Beautiful sandy beach south of Carrillo, very private and isolated and only accessible by a bumpy gravel road or by plane. Here you will find the 5-star boutique hotel "Punta Islita".

Playa La Coyotera as well as the neighboring beaches are a favorite spot for windsurfers. Strong winds blow especially during the dry season from December to April.
